How We Started
Shamwari Yemwanakomana was founded with a deep understanding of the devastating impact addiction has on families, particularly children. We recognized that while rehabilitation programs help adults recover, the children left behind often face emotional trauma, educational disruption, and social stigma.
Our organization emerged from the recognition that children affected by parental addiction need specialized support systems. These children often experience feelings of abandonment, confusion, and fear, and may struggle with trust, self-esteem, and academic performance.
Through our comprehensive programs in education support, trauma counseling, peer support groups, and drug prevention education, we work directly with affected children and their communities to create lasting positive change. Our approach is trauma-informed, addressing not just immediate needs but building long-term resilience and hope.
